Basics of asthma care

Asthma is a long-term condition - but with the right care, it doesn’t have to control your life.

Yet, according to Asthma + Lung UK*, only 32% of people with asthma in the UK receive the three basic parts of good asthma care:

  • A yearly asthma review

  • A check on how you’re using your inhaler

  • A written asthma action plan

Consequences of poor control

When these pieces are missing, asthma can become harder to manage. Poorly controlled asthma can lead to:

  • Frequent symptoms like wheeze, cough, and breathlessness

  • Overuse of reliever inhalers

  • Missed early warning signs of a flare-up

  • Increased risk of urgent GP visits or hospital care

Asthma care doesn’t have to be complicated. Just making sure your inhaler technique is correct, your medications are reviewed, and you have a clear plan in place can make a real difference.
